The Egyptian counter-attack to the cartoons

I read it at Rantings of a Sandmonkey.

The Syndicate of Egyptian cartoonists decided that they would respond to the danish cartoons by making their own cartoons on what happend. They were done in order to- and I quote- " as a response to those who fell under the thrall of racism, forgery and crime", and were printed in a 2 page spread in Al Fagr newspaper, probably as a way to redeem the fact that they were the ones who first published the danish cartoons last October.

Of all of them I am going to post only the 2 which are the most "extraordinary" from my point of view.

The number one (above) depicts a Western man that represents the EU, hurting a defenseless Arab with a pencil.

And of course the Anti-Semitism has also a place in this collection:

This one is showing a pig drawing the cartoon while saying saracsticly: "What is it? What's wrong? You never heard of something called Freedom of Expression? Hahahahahahaha". Please note the star of david hanging on the wall behind him.

You can see more at Sandmonkey's blog.

Abu Laban is the “Godfather”

Imam Abu Laban of pig-eared fame apparently knew about a planned “Martyr action” on February 21st. Quoting from my transcript of previously unreleased footage from Mohammed Sifaoui, the journalist who broke the news of Imam Ahmed Akkari’s death threats against Naser Khader. Imam Abu Laban is speaking of a man who plans to execute a martyr operation in connection with the Battle of Khartoon:

{He’s doing everything to get contacts.}
{He’s contacted Amr Moussa and he means to wreak absolute havoc.}
{He wants to join the fray and turn it into a Martyr operation right now.}

MALE VOICE: Even though we do not know of whom Abu Laban is speaking and where the martyr operation is supposed to happen, the politicians do not like the sound of things.

(in the picture we see Abu Laban efore entering the car where he spoke the words that already now spell the doom of his career as a spokesman for Moslems and a citizen of Denmark.
HT: Agora.

Agora says also that Danish politicians are shocked. Well, from one point of view, is normal. But after knowing the Akkari-Nasrem case I am not the least surprised.

Go over and read it. The post -excellent as ever- has also a very good point about the reactions from politicians. I am not the least surprised that Sifaoui has called them extermists. But says they are worse than terrorists:

I have never suggested that Abu Laban or Ahmed Akkari are terrorists themselves – in the sense that they’re bombers. They’re something much worse: They’re the the ideologues which give the young mad-man the necessary excuse – the ideological grounds – for carrying out an act of terror in Denmark.”

Danish Imam Akkari: let’s send some guys to blow Nader (UPDATED)

From Jyllands-Posten:

The danish imams are defending their prophet Muhammed through an aggressive campaign against Demokratiske Muslimer and critics of the press, in particular the morning paper Jyllands-Posten.

This is revealed in a documental from Denmark made by the french TV-station France 2, who has employed hidden cameras to unveil the truth. The documental is to be broadcasted today.

In a central segment of this documental it is shown how imam Ahmed Akkari (photo, left) indirectly threatens the leader of Demokratiske Muslimer Naser Khader(photo, right). It is proposed that he ought to be killed if he joins the government.

If he becomes Foreign or Immigration Minister, one should send a couple of guys to blow up both him and the ministry“, says the spokesman for the imams who travelled to the Middle East.

You can read it at Sugiero or Agora.

As Sugiero says this is nothing but TERRORISM. The worst of it all is that he is threatening another Muslim (NOTE:it would be enough grave that he had attacked a Non-Muslim, BUT we are I think so used to it. I do not know if worst is the word, I think “shocking although not surprisingly is that he is threatening a Muslim of different views”, is more accurate). Why? You can read who he is at Agora:

And while his passion for Danish democracy grew stronger, Naser was constantly reminded that he was from a part of the world where democracy did not exist.

For many years he was an interpreter at a number of treatment centres for victims of torture, where he listened to one horror story after the other of the way dictatorial regimes will persecute people who don’t agree.

After interviews, he more than once experienced the need to go to the toilet and vomit.

He also began to function as an interpreter in situations where it became clear to him that the Danish case workers, social advisors, teachers, pedagogues, policemen, to name a few, where talking to immigrants of whose situation they knew nothing. He was especially struck by the fact that most Danes’ knowledge of Islam was almost non-existant.

Therefore Khader published the book “Honour and Shame” in 1996. Here he tried to give an introduction to the central tenets of Mid-Eastern culture which were based partially on ancient culture and partially on Islam.

The book became a bestseller in Denmark. Here was finally an immigrant able to explain the way things were, the people working with immigrants were saying.

But in The Islamic Community, Imam Abu Laban railed against this Naser Khader who was daring enough to write a book about Islam without consulting an Imam! Continue reading

What is the meaning of freedom of expression?

In the US the cartoons should not be published because they are an insult to the religion and you have to respect others. Yet, if someone displays a banner in which it can be read "Bong Hits 4 Jesus" in a public school, and the banner is siezed, a Court has sentenced that is against his freedom of expresion, even if that banner is referring to smoking marijuana:

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – An Alaska high school violated a student’s free speech rights by suspending him after he unfurled a banner reading "Bong Hits 4 Jesus" across the street from the school, a federal court ruled on Friday.
Joseph Frederick, a student at Juneau-Douglas High School in Alaska, displayed the banner — which refers to smoking marijuana — in January 2002 to try to get on television as the Olympic torch relay was passing the school.
Principal Deborah Morse seized the banner and suspended the 18-year-old for 10 days, saying he had undermined the school’s educational mission and anti-drug stance.
Friday’s ruling by the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco overturned a decision by a federal court in Alaska that backed Frederick’s suspension and said his rights were not violated.
The appeals court said the banner was protected speech because it did not disrupt school activity and was displayed off school grounds during a non-curricular activity.
"Public schools are instrumentalities of government, and government is not entitled to suppress speech that undermines whatever missions it defines for itself," Judge Andrew Kleinfeld wrote in the court’s opinion.
The court also cleared the way for Frederick to seek damages, saying Morse was aware of relevant case law and should have known her actions violated his rights.

So, let me get this strait: if you just publish some cartoons that are only seen by people who are reading that paper -and when Jyllands-Posten published them, it was no great paper-, and that you have to pay for it,  you are inciting religion hatred and your freedom of expression should be disminished. But if you are displaying a banner in a public school which is in favour of smoking marijuana, when minors can see it, then you’re exercing your freedom of expression.

Hmm, I still do not see it, really.

Welsh Church apologizes for Cartoons’s publication

The Anglican Church in Wales has apologised to Muslims after a cartoon satirising the Prophet Mohammed was printed in its Welsh-language magazine.

The Church in Wales has issued an immediate recall of all copies of the latest edition of Y Llan – meaning Church – following the reproduction of the cartoon.

The drawing, reprinted from the French magazine France Soir, satirises the Prophet Mohammed by depicting him sitting on a heavenly cloud with Buddha and Christian and Jewish figures.

The cartoon was used to illustrate an article about the shared ancestry of Christianity, Islam and Judaism.

The Prophet’s depiction is banned in Islam and similar images in European papers sparked violent global protests.

"The Church in Wales is thoroughly investigating how this cartoon came to be reproduced in Y Llan," Sion Brynach, spokesman for the Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, said.

"Despite the publication’s small circulation, we are concerned about the possibility of causing any offence to the Muslim community in Wales – with whom the Church in Wales has an excellent relationship – as a result of the reproduction of this cartoon."

A letter from the Archbishop has been sent to all subscribers to the magazine requesting that they return all the estimated 400 copies.

The publication of similar cartoons in newspapers in Denmark, Norway, France, Germany, Italy and Spain earlier this year provoked complaints by Islamic countries, and led to protests at Danish embassies in Europe and the Middle East.

You can read it at Sugiero and Eurabian News. Also in Reuters.
