Albanian Muslims against a statue honoring Mother Theresa

Yes, it's totally illogical, that being the most remarkable human being born in Albania, they are rejecting it because she is … a religious character, and they cannot support it because then outsiders would think that Shkoder (the city in which the statue is going to be located) is Christian… From Western Resistance (HT: Eurabian News)

In another sign of the intolerance of Islam in the modern world, the inhabitants of a city in northern Albania are campaigning to prevent a statue being erected to Mother Theresa (pictured), who died on 5 September, 1997, aged 87.

The Scotsman has the story. It also appears in the left-wing and greedy New York Times but one must pay to view their articles online.

The reasons are not because Mother Theresa (real name Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu) though an ethnic Albanian, was born in Macedonia, not Albania, nor the fact that her face resembles a scrotum or a walnut, and may frighten small children.

The brouhaha is taking place in Shkoder, and the reasons for the protestations are that Mother Theresa is a "religious figure", and that would offend Muslims. Religion was officially banned for 27 years by Enver Hoxha's dictatorship, and such militancy among Muslims appears to be a recent development.

There are numerous "mixed" marriages in the country, which has a population of 70% "liberal" Muslims, and the rest being Orthodox and Catholic Christian.

Despite her not possessing the most visually pleasing facial features, Mother Theresa's charitable work, in particular her work with the poor and the sick at her Missionaries of Charity home in central Calcutta, India, (where she died) is internationally recognised. Her deep faith and her commitment to the oppressed has led to her being placed on the fast-track to sainthood by the Vatican.

The objections to a proposal by the local council were articulated by the mufti of Shkoder, Bashkim Bajrajtari. Other residents complained that there was a plot to portray the town as a Catholic enclave. Recently, the city's Muslims prevented crosses from being erected on nearby hilltops.

This paranoid Muslims… No, all the things that happen in the world are NOT a plot against Muslims…

And crosses, they are "prevented" from being erected (the methods are not mentioned) hmmm, BUT the city has a mosque built with Saudi money (left photo). Impressiv, eh?

B/C we albanians are stupid, Albanians are like leaves, they go whichever way the wind blows. No matter if you are a muslim or catholic, you have to recognize the goodness of someone wether they are muslim or catholic. I am an Albanian but first of all I am MUSLIM, Skenderbeg ( Kastriot) was made by a general by MUSLIMS, and what happenes? the wind blew the other way. He turned against the muslims.
But yet we recognize him as a hero. There is a statue of Skenderbeg in my town of Skopje Macedonia where Mother Theresa was born.so if you can recognize Skenderbeg you also can regognize Mother Theresa.

  6. Even if you feel she has not largely contributed to a specific region of Albania… Her entire message was to look beyond all of our ever-increasing and obvious perceived human differences to our common humanity… She said the reason peace is lost is that we have forgotten that we belong to each other, and forgotten that we were formed by the same divine hand and are therefore brothers and sisters… Both Christian and Muslim doctrine states this so our actions should more fully reflect this truth. Also, many Muslims loved her and I think she would be very unhappy to be related in any way towards purposefully hurtful words towards any of the reflections of divinity she sacrificed all her life loving and serving… although she saw it as an honor she was unworthy of and not as a sacrifice. I think we could all, including myself, use a healthy dosage of Mother Teresa’s humility.

There are like houndrends of streets, statues and other objects named after mother Theresa in Albania and kosovo, the airport of capital of Albania is named after her,.

And you write about a little trouble about a statue in a small street in an Albanian city as a great conflict betwen religions lol.

By the way im not religios at all and i think that both islam and christianity are worthlees semitic fairytales.

  8. Shqiptare musliman

what a load of one sided shit is this!!! fuking christians are trying to take over the only muslim nation in europe why the fuck would anyone wat crosses raised in a muslim city??? thats like raising massive arbic allah pillars around paris or something and mother terresa was nothing but a missionary bribeing poor indians to convert to christianity cause thats wat they do fuk her rrofte islame ne shqiperia

  9. this is one sided, christians r trying to take over albanian, like the mufti of shkodra said let it be placed in a christian part of the city and the croses why would u want croses raised on the hills of a majority muslim city?? thats like raising massive allah in arabic pillars around rome or something out of this world, and to the person named fuc all muslims u have no idea

  10. I apologize for my first comment I got worked up over another comment I read but I am trying to say that it is not religious intolerance to object to a statute of a Christian religious figure being raised in a majority Muslim country, its not religious intolerance to object to CROSSES being raised around a city with a majority Muslim population its obvious that this is pure Christianization of Albanian going on and these muslims are not going to take it anymore, Albanian Christians can build all the churches they wont we don’t care but to go around putting Christian images and figures in public areas will not be tolerated, let it be in a Christian area

I feel it interesting to read these comments and see that all the anger and obsenity-filled comments are from those saying they are Muslim. My recent visit to Albania saw a kinder, gentler, humble and tolerant people who see Christians as brothers and sisters working for a better Albania, along-side Muslims who perhaps understand their religion better than those who have posted on this site.

  12. Pacifo

My Muslim and Christian sisters and brothers,

Please be tolerant of one another! We all seek to do the will of the one and only creator, God! His will is that human civilization evolve to honor Him. We honor Him by honoring and respecting ALL of His creation – starting first with each other! Imagine greeting me face-to-face, for the first time, at your front door. Would you use such foul language?

Mother Theresa was seeking God in the best way she knew. To reject her or any Muslim or Christian person seeking to do the work of Allah is to reject Allah Himself! Tell us here of other holy persons, Muslim or Christian, who care for orphans or the sick) lonely, or untouchables! Let us honor them together!

Stop hating each other! We are on the same side! Violence and hatred are born of the evil one – reject him! If you continue in hatred and violence only pain and sorrow will fill your life. Your children will ado see and learn this evil from you and be cursed to live in this sorrowful, angry, and violent state.

God’s love be upon all of you – Muslin, Christian, and others. Loving each other and doing the TRUE will of God is the only way!

  13. there is no need for a statue of mother tersa, why should the muslims allow croses to be placed around there city put the croses on you churches long live peaceful religious tolerant albania

  14. Angel

Bible Verse: Deuteronomy chapter 4 says
“Take heed, therefore, lest forgetting the covenant which the LORD, your God, has made with you, you fashion for yourselves against his comand an idol in any form whatsoever.”
Bible Verse: Luke chapter 11, verse 28
Jesus said: “Blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.”
Bible Verse: Leviticus chapter 26, verses 1&2 says
“Do not make false gods for yourselves. You shall not erect an idol or a sacred pillar for yourselves, nor shall you set up a stone figure for worship in your land; for I, the LORD, am your God. Keep my Sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary.”
Bible Verse: Mark, Chapter 12 verses 29-31
Jesus said the greatest commandment is “The LORD our God is Lord alone! you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with alll your strength The second is this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself”
Bible Verse : Matthew chapter 19, verse 17
Jesus said: ” If you wish to enter life keep the commandments.

EVERYONE PLEASE LOVE ONE ANOTHER, STOP DISPUTING, FEED THE HUNGRY AND HELP THE POOR AND SICK, FORGIVE ONE ANOTHER AND YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER WILL FORGIVE YOU.

  15. So, Angel, if you have a photo of a loved one, you are not fulfilling this commandment?
Let me explain something to you as a Catholic. We adore God but we revere the Saints. What is the difference? God is the Creator, His Place is above all the rest, so you adore him. The Saints are all those people who have lived a life in communion with God, so their example must be followed, and as a result we admire/revere them. But certainly their place is not the same as God, so we cannot adore them.
    Is that clear?
Oh, and the blog has enabled the comments moderation, so it’s not necessary that you repeat the comments several times. 😉

  16. Gjergj Kastrioti

The number of catholic, orthodox and protestant Albanians is rising day per day, even in Kosova.

Albanians in Macedonia are the most religious fanatics on the Balkans, but they are only 300.000 and they get permanently f*cked by the Slavs. So nevermind them!
Important are the Albanians in Albania (3,5 Mio.), Kosova (2 Mio.) and Cameria (1 Mio), which are mostly christian (orthodox at a higher percentage than catholics and protestant)

Ju as emra e as mbiemra shqiptar nuk keni (Ali Ahmeti, Selim Rexhepi/Selim Redzepi, etj).

    Tung, fqine maqedon!
